Growing up seeing how the weather impacts the livelihood of farmers. I started a business with a simple mission of helping those farmers in my hometown to have some extra income by selling their veggies straight to urban families.
After moving to Australia, I’d spend a year volunteering. The more I learn about sustainable agriculture and see how our modern lifestyles are destroying the planet, the more I want to give a hand to protect our Earth.
Nature has provided us everything, yet we are not treating our nature right. Each of us should consume responsibly.
I founded Organizan to prove that there are good eco-friendly alternatives for most of the single-use plastic products which are not only destroying the quality of the environment we live in, but also causing harm to many other creatures. Through our products, we also want to promote sustainable eco-friendly alternatives.
In the old times when plastic products weren’t widespread, we used leaves and plants based materials for food cover, wrapping, and storage. Papaya stems, wheat stems, grass stems were commonly used as drinking straws. My family has a business supplying banana leaves around Vietnam for food wrapping, plating and decorating. I have been amazed by how sustainable these natural wrappers are.
While Australia is one of the top countries that grown wheat. It’s such a waste of wonderful resources if we just threw the wheat stems after harvest. I want to take full advantage of wheat stems to reduce plastic waste straws which are the public enemy number one.
With an increasingly eco-focused consumer, we believe we can help address this issue with the wheat-stem based alternate. Recycling plastic straws is unrealistic due to a cost as high as $4000 per tonne. Other alternatives such as paper-based have their own problems such as requiring plastic for structural integrity or quickly becoming wet and losing shape. Wheat-stems do not suffer this issue, with the stem remaining rigid when wet.
Every year we dump a massive 2.12 billion tons of waste (according to The World Counts). Australia has generated 67 million tonnes of waste each year, 37 million tonnes has been sent for recycling (according to Australia National Waste report 2018). Plastic waste is often not recycled.
At Organizan, we take a step further by extending the life of recycled plastics by creating long-lasting products such as jewelry, home decorations, etc…
Give us your hand in helping our environment and to exchange your plastic straws with simple biodegradable alternatives.
Each one of us can make a difference. Together we make the change
